**English** **_Art overcoming mental barriers_** This film takes place in the Fifties and tells the story of a young art history teacher from an ultra-conservative private college for girls. Through her ideas, she challenges the rigid morals of school and society, garnering the respect of her peers and the affection of her students. Directed by Mike Newell, it could be just another movie about private-schools for the "well-born children's" of US families if it weren't for three factors that make the difference: the first is the good performance of Julia Roberts in the lead role, much better and more successful than in other films that were most acclaimed; the second is the song "The Heart of Every Girl", composed by Sir Elton John for this film and winner of a Golden Globe; the third is the excellent script, very well written, focused not only on the change of mentality of the students but also on the drastic change in the role of women during that specific period. Please remember, dear reader, that a few years later you will have the "May 68" in France, the "Summer of Love" in the USA and everything that followed, with women demanding more space in society and work. The screenwriter did his homework and was certainly aware of this when he wrote for this movie. Of course, I cannot fail to emphasize the good performance of the young Kirsten Dunst in the role of a conservative student who leads the opposition to feminist ideas and shows us that, contrary to any initial idea, there were women who did not think these changes were good. Despite the positive notes, this movie has two serious flaws. The first is that it is very similar to the movie "The Dead Poets Society"... so similar that everyone who sees it without paying attention will almost face it as the "female version" of this movie. The second flaw is the great focus on the struggles and rivalries between the students. I don't know what to think about this but I felt, as I watched, that this only served to remove maturity and seriousness from the plot. It was, perhaps, because of these little flaws that this film never reached a higher level of recognition: unlike "Dead Poets" (comparisons are inevitable), this film hasn't received great prizes or nominations. However, its truly remarkable and deserves a place in the living room of any good movie lover.
